where is your journey taking you?

Here are two scenes for you to consider:

1. The first is of a man condemned to death. To reach his place of execution, he must travel across the country. The agents in charge of his journey choose to transport him in first-class accommodations for the entire trip. He rides in a limousine. He flies in a luxurious, private jet. He sleeps in a five-star hotel. He receives every conceivable creature comfort. His entire passage is posh and plush. Nevertheless, it's the most miserable journey he's ever taken because he knows how it's going to end.

2. The second scene is of a man going home to his family. A great war has just been won on the other side of the world. The army has given the man an honorable discharge. His travel is difficult. He rides in a crowded bus. He flies in a noisy, bumpy transport. He sleeps on the carpeted floor of a terminal. The food is bad. His entire passage is exhausting and hard. But it's the most wonderful journey he's ever taken because he knows how it's going to end.

Your journey on this earth can be difficult and unpleasant and rough. But because of what your Savior has already done on your behalf at the cross, by faith in him you can know how your journey is going to end. And that makes all the difference.

Lord Jesus, help me remember that because you have washed away my sins, I know how the journey of my life is going to end. Thank you! Amen.
