HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY, ANDREW!!!!

Andrew is our oldest grandson and very special to us and our family. He is so kind, compassionate, loving, sensitive, and sweet. He is funny, gullible, and has a great sense of humor. He has very strong emotions that run deep. He adores his family!
When they first moved up here when he was 5 months old I said I wasn't going to get too close to him because they'd move back within a year or two. Well...he hooked us with the first meeting! How could we not be hooked? Look at that face!
His smile and eyes light up our lives and I don't remember life without him! I love you Andrew! Thank you, God, for Andrew....the families first baby blessing!

ANDREW 2008

Well... it is Andrew's birthday. I am so excited for him. This is a whole new time in his life! I can't find pictures of every year... but here are some. I remember the night he was born and getting the calls from Ryan. He was so happy!!! Can't believe it was 13 years ago... somehow it seems longer.... and somehow it seems like yesterday!

Rearranged my living room yesterday. Looks nice and cozy. Papa seemed to like it. He is one wonderful person! He came home last night and went out with his chainsaw and started trimming trees. I was getting a bit worried with him on that ladder with a chainsaw and no one to help. Then his chainsaw got stuck. He was getting mad and I told him to pray. Next thing ya know... good old Rich came from next door and helped him. You may remember... he's the one that got him unstuck in the snow twice. lol! Great neighbor to have around. One tree is an apple tree... the other is the kind with those nasty orange berries that look pretty at first and then gets all over the place and makes a mess. The birds love them. The hammock is still safe. He didn't totally remove the tree. It was a beautiful day out but got cold fast. He needs some grandkids over to help haul those branches to the back yard now so he can burn. He loves to burn.

I spent the day nursing a headache and muscle spasms. That was fun. Karla swooped in and grabbed her copy of the Family video. They were going to watch it for Friday Movie night. Papa made shrimp for dinner last night. It was wonderful!

Slept over 8 hours last night. I don't mean to make all of you jealous... (I had my time with little ones and your day will come when you get old) but since I've been on my new med's .... I sleep like a baby. It is wonderful. All night long and feel great in the morning. No problem getting to sleep... even with my 30 minute power nap yesterday I was in bed by 9:30! I love these pills. I did have some weird dreams. I was dreaming that I had this huge sty on my eye. I also had a dream I went to my old work to visit and everything changed.... they had massage tables where the bookkeepers were... and I couldn't find the bookkeepers! It was too weird.

Well.... birthday parties today and that's about it! It will be fun to be with family! Love it! Will be posting some pictures tomorrow! Have a great day, too!

A true patriot....

2-27-04 Parker & Patrick with their cars...

You can have assurance...

music, births, and birthdays....

You probably noticed my video. Once that song gets into your head it never leaves. The other night on American Idol... one of the contestants tried to sing this song (Viva la Vida) and failed miserably. It was bad. I think only Chris Martin can sing this. And me. lol! Ok... I am a fan. Also really like the Ryan Star song "Last Train..." I have been voting for it. He's kicking butt against Careless Whisper. The link is on this site if you want to hear the songs and vote. Can you tell I am totally bored????

Cleaned my kitchen yesterday, more laundry, dishes, was going to rearrange the living room but couldn't decide how I wanted it so I haven't done it yet. Not many ways to change things in this house. Kevon is going to come one day and "we're" going to take that window out between the kitchen and living room. It really dates the house.

Congrats to both Kopono and his wife on the birth of their 2nd son!!! He called Lanny yesterday at work and told them the news. I called Kevon (they are good friends...have been for years) and shared the news. He said Brad S. and his wife (pictured) were having their 2nd boy yesterday too! I told him he better get on the stick! Besides the fact I am bored. lol!

Well... I am glad it is Friday. I've missed Lanny this week. I hope you all have a great weekend! We will.... celebrating Lauren turning 6 (which will make Maddie mad being the only 5 year old left) and our oldest grandson turning 13!!!! Can you believe it? It is hard to think about us being that old, that Ryan & Amanda are old enough to have a teenager (since they were just teenagers themselves it seems), and it seems like Andrew was just a baby the other day!!! Life keeps moving forward, doesn't it?

What's Ahead:
Dry weather returns for today and the first part of tomorrow... bringing afternoon sun and highs in the mid to high 40s.
Chance of rain Saturday afternoon and evening. Weekend highs will be in the 50s. Expect rain at times Sunday through most of the coming week.
Sunny slopes for skiers today in the Cascades with increasing clouds tomorrow and a chance of mountain snow and rain late Saturday and Sunday.

God's blessings....

When our hearts are tuned to God's will and long to honor him, it is our Father's delight to bless us in mighty ways. So let's first set our hearts to do his will. Then, let's not be afraid to ask God to pour out his blessings on others. Then, let's also share with him the desires of our heart. Finally, let's not be surprised at the ways he blesses us!

Prayer
O God, please show yourself to be glorious in the ways that you bless me and those that I love. Help all people to know that these blessing do not come by our wisdom, skill, or strength but from your grace. In Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.

Snow, DVDs, and Ron & Sharon....

Happy Anniversary to our other best friends .... Sharon and Ron! I love you guys... (yes, even you Ron.)!

Candles are lit again this morning. Those wind chimes are playing a pretty melody this morning..... and snow is everywhere and still falling. Papa said the roads are OK, but I notice the schools are 2 hours late. Kids don't mind... throws the parents off though! My decks are covered with snow again from the wind blowing it in. Cat doesn't like that. Looks like this morning is it for our snow. Hopefully for the whole year! We've had a lot of snow this year! I remember the Farmer's Almanac said we were going to.... they don't lie.

My cousin, Bob, is the best!!!!! I love him for so many reasons.... but right now I am bragging because I got the DVDs back already!!! I don't know if you remember me mentioning years ago I put together a video from a bunch of different videos of some of our funniest moments when the kids were teens and the grand kids were little. Well, the first 4 grand kids. I lost the video for a couple years and just found it. Bob put it on DVD for us... added his flair and it is sooooo wonderful and amazing! Couldn't have asked for a more wonderful DVD or cousin!!! He will always be my favorite for so many reasons! He's the best! And he made a DVD for each of our kids! They are pretty excited, too!!! I watched it as soon as I got it! I wish there was a way you could all see it.

Went around with the Windex getting everything I could find and moving pictures and stuff yesterday. Another load of laundry, etc... Had an earache yesterday... and it kept popping. Not sure what that was about! Hopefully it is gone.

Had so much fun on facebook, too. Posted some pictures of my best friend, Candice, below. And found a great website called Green Acres I have posted. She is fun to read. She is a combination of many of our family members. If you read the post where she talks about the truth about her... you'll see what I mean.

Well.... think I'll rearrange furniture today.... and maybe go for a walk with Toby with cotton in the ear. Hope your day is great!!! Thanks for your love and support! You guys are the best! May God bless you all!

What's Ahead:
Snow showers this morning bring another inch or two before partly sunny skies!
Dry weather tonight and tomorrow.
Lows around freezing again tonight, with high 40s tomorrow.
Weekend weather sees more clouds Saturday with increasing rain later in the day and staying wet and at times breezy Sunday and early next week.
Mountain snow brings another 3 inches at least today to the passes, easing tonight.

rubbing elbows with the rich and famous....

Can you tell who the 80's girl is in the red dress? We have laughed and laughed over this picture!!!

ok.... I've been having a blast with Facebook lately. I notice myspace is basically being ignored and everyone is hopping over. I have reconnected with so many people!!! From high school, from churches we used to attend, kids' friends, family, people I go to church with, people who are still my friends and family! I'm loving it! There have been a few surprises... ways people have changed and what they are up to. If you know me at allllll... you know I am a HUGE picture person. I've had so much fun looking at photo's and video's and checking out their kids... just a blast. Here are some fun ones of Candice.... got her talked into this and people have been posting pictures of her on it. She never goes on here so I thought I would post them....lol! Wouldn't matter. She is one of my bestest friends. Some of you might remember her from mom's birthday party at my house. Her and Ron sang for mom. They did great. Well, you may not recognize these blasts from the past pictures of her....when she won Miss Cobb County before moving on to Miss Atlanta.

And Candice was in Broadway's The King and I. Here she is.... I wouldn't have even recognized her! She kind of scares me here!!!

While touring and during her "famous time" she met lots of stars. Here she is with a little country and rock & roll!

She also poses Maureen McGovern who sings "The Morning After" in the Posidein Adventure.
Don't know who that guy is.

I wanted to save the very best for last. The most famous pose has got to be the last one. You've never seen such beautiful people ever!!! What a fun night!
Me, my two bestest friends and my beautiful daughter!!! It was a great night and we had a lot of fun that night.

Also while going into facebook, a guy I went to school with, Steve Tytler, posted a video of him when he was a newscaster down in Portland. He is with Bill O'Reilly from the O'Reilly Factor on Fox news now. Bill wasn't so famous back then! lol I tried to get the video but could only get the link if you want to check it out. Quite a long time ago!!! Don't know if the link will work or not:

If not.... and you're my friend on facebook.... i think it's on my profile page!

Well this has been fun!

i LOVE this!

I found a blog I love and just posted. She is hilarious. Her mom (the martha stewart of the midwest) sent her some tips.... some I've heard and some I haven't... thought I'd pass them on. It's more interesting than my posts lately. The comments are hers after each one...not mine. Check out her site... Green Acres. She's got a bit of several of my family members in her!!! lol!

Here's the great tips:

*Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little 'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it. (I love this, because I can't stand those stringy things)

*Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

*Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

*Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. (I will now be looking at pepper bootys before buying them)

*Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

*To really make scrambled eggs or omelettes rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up. (diet, schmiet...dump in that heavy cream and enjoy!!)

*For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt chocolate mint patties
in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting. (This is one I am thinking she came up with. Martha's got nothin' on her).

*Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

*Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm! (This one HAS to be hers...she has made something like this before)

*Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works. (My son is very excited to try this one. As a matter of fact, guess what he asked if we could have for supper?)

*Easy Deviled Eggs: Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

*When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving. (Allows you to have more heavy cream in your eggs that way...Bonus!)

*To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

*To keep weeds away: Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers. (I giggle when I think of her sending me this one. Green thumbs is something I also didn't inherit from her)

*Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

*Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

*To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

*To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings. (This one has me saying "Well duh! Why didn't I think of this before?")

*Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing pantyhose. Place pin in seam of slacks and... ta da!... static is gone. (I'm trying to figure out how this one works, but since I don't wear panty hose, I'll just have to trust that it does)

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
(that sounds so slick! get it? slick..slippery..slides right out. I crack myself up)

*Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box ofyour car. When the window fogs, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth! (I'm totally going to try this!)

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

*Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair. (Unless you're into that whole French 'au natural' kind of look)

*To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! (I'll be trying this one also. Here on the farm we deal with those nasty little bugs constantly)

*Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it home, can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed.

My dad sold and repaired appliances for years and he can definitely vouch for this next tip:

*The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean as I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes. He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material. I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well, the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free along with that nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that extends the life of the dryer at least twice as long!
