Vinnie update

So let me tell you...Vinnie doesn't really care for men. Not sure why, of course, but when Papa met up with two different guys down the road on their walk he growled a little at the men. Not a good thing. But he wasn't too fond of the vet or the lady tech either. But he loved the ladies at the groomers. I had a feeling this could be the case because at the groomers he was cautious of the man that came out.  And it has taken him a bit longer to warm up to papa. He has really been a cling-on to me. He sits with me and sleeps with me all the time. Right now he is actually on the couch. He has a sad look all the time. Maybe it is just the face.

He got a haircut and bath. Then yesterday we took him to the vet and he weighs 15 pounds and he got a shot. He's already had all his other shots.

He doesn't walk so great on the leash. He loves, loves, loves going on walks. Papa walks him twice a day. But he has to learn to quit pulling so hard on the leash. He needs to learn to walk properly.

He doesn't like canned dog food. He doesn't like the treats so much (at least the ones we bought). He loves cheese. He stares at you when you eat. That doesn't bother me so much as long as he doesn't jump on me. And he has chin hair so every time he gets a drink he brings his wet chin to me.

My check list for a dog was that he loves kids and he does. He is neutered, calm, doesn't try to jump the fence, housebroken, not white (he's a lighter colored than I wanted), he does take a little grooming which I didn't want, but he is healthy! We keep testing him to make sure he isn't too territorial. Can't have that.

He doesn't like it outside except for his walk. He goes out and does his business and comes in.

He loves going for rides in the car.

He loves toys. If they have a squeaker he likes to rip it apart to get the squeaker out. He destroys it. He doesn't eat the filling or the squeaker or any of it. He just leaves the remains. lol!

Now for the issue with Kitkat.  It is going so much better. They will walk right past one another. If Kitkat runs the dog will start to chase but when we say NO he stops. But now the cat has learned not to run from him for the most part. I don't have to watch them all the time. It would be nice if we could leave them home alone, but I don't think that is going to happen yet.

Vinnie really does have separation issues. One of us needs to be near him or he panics. It is hard because we don't really know where he has come from and what his life was like before us. I like him a lot! I don't know that we totally trust each other yet, but that should come. Still trying to figure out what he likes and doesn't like.

Well, that is my update. He is so different than Toby. We can't really compare, but it is different. There will never be another Toby. But this guy is pretty unique. Still learning so much of each other.  He's a keeper. The only thing that could ruin it for him is if he bit one of the grand kids. So far he loves them!

Papa is making Pork Chop Scallop for dinner. Yummy!
