LADIES FROM MY PAST.... I HAVE LOVE AND LOST.

Reflecting on all the great women I got very close to in my life and I have lost.....Phyllis, Mary (Ma), Ernestine, Mary, Virginia, Ma, Mom, Kaye, my Aunt Lorraine, Aunt Millie, Aunt Clarice and Aunt Marcella. They all mentored me in ways you can't imagine.
1. The first lady in this picture is Phyllis Rayment. This woman meant more to me than life. She was our neighbor, care taker, hairdresser and I grew up with her as my other mom! She taught me we better tell the truth, to laugh a lot, to love others. be kind, if you want to get on someones good side... brush their hair often!!!! lol Miss and love Phyllis Rayment!
2. This is Mary Davison, who taught me how to stick to what you believe in, receive the Lord's forgiveness totally and let it go, and to love family no matter what. She was mom's best friend and kindred spirit. They would get together for lunch as often as possible and many times I got to join them They made me laugh so much. We all met at the Nazarene Church in Poulsbo and at one point I would take her to the store and on errands and always out to eat. She was a special person in my life and I called her "ma"! I loved helping her!
3. Ernestine Kain taught me compassion and how to see past peoples faults and love them anyway. She taught me not to worry about if people are grateful or not.... but did it please God?
Ernestine was the first person I met at PNC and I went to Azteca's for a Ladies Night Out following our first day at church. I turned to leave being uncomfortable and she stopped me and sat me by her and Sharon Hanna Davison. My life changed. She rubbed my hurting back, talked me into taking over Compassionate ministry when she moved to Oklahoma, checked on my all the time after I left the church. She had more love in her heart than any person I ever met.
4. Mary Lane taught me so much about forgiveness, being gracious, and how to serve others. She gave me a birthday dinner every year with fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and introduced me to fried parsnips (which she made so good!) She was always there to listen to me and give me her sage advice on so many things in life. She kept my family picture in her bathroom mirror and prayed for us. She loved me and I sure loved her!
5. Next row I have a picture of the lovely Virginia Mason. Another person we met through PNC. She taught me you can get through almost anything in life with a smile. She taught me to show compassion. I lined up a dinner for her every Sunday by asking someone to take her home after church or to a restaurant with them. Everyone was so willing, which was no reflection on me but on her and what a delight it was to be with her! She went through a lot in her life and her faith did not waiver. Amazing woman.
6. My mother-in-law, Waverly McCann, gave great hugs and welcomed me into her home and family from day one. She loved her kids more than anything in life and taught me to be happy for mine and to love and support them. She taught me life isn't perfect but we do the best we know how. She taught me Okra isn't terrible and it is best to keep some opinions to yourself. I loved her weekly phone calls and how she said my name in that high southern drawl. I will miss her forever.
7. Mom....my favorite. The one I didn't think I would ever lose. The one I knew would always be there for me. She knew every one of these ladies and loved them as much as me! My mama taught me so many things. How to forgive, love unconditionally, treat others how you want to be treated, kindness, and any good quality I have comes from mom. She gave me her love for old country music, chicken fried steak, and wacky cake. I miss her so much and try to keep her memory alive to others.
8. Sadly, I have no picture of Kaye Mathison. I wish I did. I met her at Martha and Mary kitchen and worked with her. Others didn't like her and I couldn't understand it and mom told me to form my own opinion. I loved her! She was getting ready to retire. She was outspoken, honest, and very caring. Kaye taught me to be a strong woman and not believe everything you hear...make your own opinion. Her husband, Alf, was union pres. at the mill and got Dave on there as a favor to me. She was so kind! In the days after her husband died someone was outside of her home banging on it. I went over and spent several nights with her. She was a strong woman but this scared her and I comforted her as she had comforted me and helped me in the past. Love her!!!
9. The bottom row is my aunties. Starting with who I was named after and probably am most like.... my Aunt Lorraine. Lorraine Tuff taught me to be honest and to be hospitable. and how to let people in my life. She was outspoken but one of the most sensitive and emotional person I have ever known. I see myself in her and I am proud of it. I loved her so much and I never, ever doubted her love for me. She made me laugh all the time with her quick wit and sarcasm. Her home in Peever, South Dakota, was my absolute favorite place to go when on vacation. We felt so welcome there, loved, and had a blast visiting and playing cards! Mom and dad felt the same way. I miss her so much!
10. My Aunt Millie died in 1996 and since she lived in Sisseton South Dakota I didn't know her as well as my other aunts. But I have sweet memories of how much she loved my parents and welcomed us into her home, cereal, toast and jelly every morning on the table, her kindness and how she spoke with a Norwegian accent like my dad. Dad was her baby brother but mom and her were like sisters. I am not sure why but it was always sad to say goodbye to her after time there in the summer. Sweet, kind, gentle soul. Love my aunt Millie.
11. My Aunt Clarice was a character. Mom's oldest sister and hard to know. She had her guard up and only let a few into her circle. Plus she was busy raising 5 boys and a girl. But I know she loved me as much as I loved her. She was good to my parents and us kids. She made great cinnamon rolls could knit so good and she had a great laugh and sense of humor. When she passed away something died in my mom and our family too. She was more like a mom to my mom and a grandma to us kids. She is so missed.
12. My Aunt Marcella passed away last Spring. I have no aunts or uncles now. They have all passed. My Aunt Marcella was such a kind person. She worried if others were ok all the time. She was caring, sweet, spoke with a Norwegian accent, was close to my mom and loved her two boys! She loved traveling and gambling in Dead Wood. She lived in Rapid City and we always stopped and spent time with them on our way across the state. We always felt welcomed and loved and free to come and go and do the touristy thing. She was great.
13. There was one more elderly lady I think of with love and fond memories from my childhood and that is Mrs. Gore. She lived across the street from us in a little white house with her husband Charley. We would stop in to say hi to her and she would always have cookies or cinnamon rolls or something baking. She was always happy to see us and invited us kids in. When you are a kid it is important to feel wanted and the one adult in our neighborhood who made me feel that way the most was Mrs. Gore. Sorry ... no picture of her.
That is my ladies.... I hope I didn't forget anyone this time!

Just a quick one to cover a few July birthdays!

I am on top of it... look at me posting after a few weeks!  Don't know if I will have much to write about but I will give it a try.

Lauren left today to spend some time with her friends Leah and Daisy.  Daisy just got back from Europe and Lauren is so happy.  Weird how so many people are going to Europe this summer. I am scared to travel anywhere.  lol!  Lauren also is so excited that she found out in band they will be playing music from the Incredibles. Manda text her the music so Lauren can't wait to get started. She loves band so much and I am happy her mom is keeping her at Kingston High so she can stay with band.  I am glad she didn't get turned off to it after feeling snubbed at the end of Junior High.  But she has a new teacher and is excited.  I love it when she spends time over here.  We are really into "Big Brother" and she just freaks out during it.  She has my computer most of the time. She really needs her own!  Especially starting high school.  Right now she is glued to a game she used to play when she was  about 4 called Toon Town.  She will play it for hours.  I think it was 12 yesterday.  She wakes me up every morning by scaring me.  She comes up behind my chair and yells "Boogity Boo!"  Then papa makes her breakfast at close to lunch time (when she gets up).  She goes to bed after me. Can't keep up with her.  I sure love her companionship. I love her. And she makes me laugh all the time.

I am not writing about Andrew.  When I do I get scolded by him.  It isn't mup to me to tell people about his life.  I guess I can when it involves me?  I got to see him on Manda's birthday last week.  It was a surprise.  They stopped by here to drop Lauren off while they went out to dinner. I didn't know he was coming across here.  The girls had a sleepover here that night (Lauren, Madi and Riley). Lauren had lunch with her mama earlier in the day. That's all I can say about Andrew. Except he is handsome, working hard at an amazing place in Kirkland that sells Hawaiian drinks, taking a summer class, and we talk about theological things all the time.  Great discussions.  I am learning a lot from him.  And at times we get into stupid disagreements because we both know it all.  lol!  I sure love him. I am proud of him and think he is an amazing man. He already is an amazing man of God and he will one day be an amazing Pastor.

So as I said, we had a sleepover here.  Wasn't my idea, I didn't plan it, it just happened.  At our family dinner the "triplets" or "trio"  as I call them (Lauren, Riley and Madi) decided they were having a sleepover. When I asked where Lauren pointed to my house. Oh.  Ok.  I had to laugh.  It isn't the same for them to all sleep at one of their homes.  I don't know if they ever have together. Just Mam's.   It's ok. Nothing was better than to be laying in bed and hearing them all laughing in the next room.  It warms my heart so much!  They seemed to have a lot of fun!  And for breakfast papa made them Bacon, Eggs, Hashbrowns, Pancakes, and waffles.  Oh, and chocolate milk.  Maybe that is why they come. For his breakfasts.  So I felt I had to post the girls over the years. Here goes. A lot of love in these pictures!!!!

OVER A MONTH'S WORTH

I know it has been awhile.  Just haven't felt up to any writing.  I even backed off of facebook a bit. My grandson asked if  I was still blogging and I said "No, only one friend, Theresa, reads it anyway."  I could just write her letters.  But then I could call her too. lol!  I also write this as a journal.  That is why I update it once in awhile.

I wrote last month and ended my life story with Mother's Day!
Andrew went to Italy on a mission trip with his college. He had a great time and loved Rome!  They flew straight to Heathrow in London and then headed down to Rome. He got to see so much history...including the Colosseum and the jail where Paul was kept. He was gone 2 weeks. After Rome he went across the country to Francavilla, which was on the water.

Kevon and Dylan went with my ex husband to Washington DC and NYC.  They had a great time!  Here are some photo's they took!

They moved on to New York by train...the pictures from their hotel were just amazing.

Kevon where John Lennon was murdered.

We went to the BBQ at Karla's and got to look at Dylan's slideshow of the trip. It was pretty awesome.  Joel made some great burgers (some were beef and some were elk).
Our grandson Patrick turned 18 on June 4th.  Now we have 5 adult grandkids!  He is so handsome and kind and sensitive and loving. He got his first tatoo of his last name across his back.

Lauren sang on the worship team with her youth group and they sang both services at church.  We were really proud of her.  She did great with an amazing voice and songs!

Not sure if these are going to download because it says they are too big.
Here is Lauren that afternoon. lol!

Had visitors over... my oldest brother, Rick, brought our sister, Lois, over to meet up with our other sister, Libby.  They met at my house and visited for a bit. Lois stayed at Libby's for a week.  It was nice to see everyone!

I lost 13 pounds so far.  We had a Family Mexican dinner on the 9th.  I love getting together with my family.  It was a small group this time. The food was really good!  Enchilada's, tacos, chips with salsa and cheese.  There was Papa and I, Joel, Karla and Madi, Lois and Libby and Lauren!  We played a game of Apple to Apples.  Lois doesn't like games but I think she had fun with it.

Concerts happened before school ended.  Madi and Riley both had a choir concerts.  Lauren had a band one.
She also marched a lot. She was in Jazz Band and Marching Band.  In Marching Band she was chosen to become head Drum Majorette which she excelled at and was loving it.  There were two other girls too.

here she is a drum major....

Here she is doing her solo:

She had an amazing year and after all she did and how her teacher compared her with Alyssa (my niece) for the past couple years and talked about how amazing Lauren was and how he had her do solo's all the time she did not get the coveted end of middle school award.   Only one boy and one girl gets it.  Lauren cried and cried. She was so hurt and devastated.  I was recording. We all thought she was going to win since she was the best.  The girl who won took lessons and could play a few instruments, her mom works in the office and she volunteered with the band field trips etc...  Lauren didn't know she needed to take lessons or play several instruments to win. But she was the best and everyone was shocked she didn't get it.  Especially the kids in her class.  She was isn't being a sore loser, she just knows she deserved it.   Still brings tears to my eyes.  Her teacher was her favorite and was so unfair. I don't know if he realizes what he did to her. He is not her favorite anymore. oops.
Riley got this at her concert! Very proud of her!!!

The end of the school year happened.

Lauren and Madi both had dances to attend.
Lauren's dance wasn't a dress up (it was casual after school).  But Madi's dance was in the evening and fancy and she looked beautiful.

I felt an earthquake.  3.5.  Papa was sitting right next to me and didn't feel a thing. lol

The Valverde's came over on a Friday and Don spent the whole day pressure washing our roof, deck and side of house!  It took such a burden off Papa who finally realizes it isn't safe for him to get up there anymore.  It is so hard to when it hits you as you get older that you have limitations.  Don also cleaned the gutters out.  We are pretty happy and we have an amazing son-in-law! And we got to see and visit with Heather, Parker , Josh and Jared!  They went with me to pick up Lauren after school so she got to visit with them, too. I didn't get any pictures of them together but I do have one taken at their house. lol

I did take pictures of these two... Lauren and her Auntie Heather!  So much alike.  I couldn't get a good pic. smh

We made it through Father's Day and Papa's birthday.  It was interesting. Papa didn't want anything done. No dinner, no nothing.  So we just stayed home and did nothing.  His choice.

Speaking of Lanny's birthday... Kapono was the first one to call Lanny on his birthday!  Speaking of Kapono (Makoa's dad) ...we had the greatest news about Makoa.  The test results came back and he is cancer free!  God is so good!  He is so amazing!  We give Him the praise!  We are so happy we cried!  They still have some things to go to but what a blessing this is!

Lauren comes home on Sunday!  She has been down in Arizona visiting her dad. We sure miss her. She was the second person to call Papa to wish him happy birthday and we stayed on the phone with her for over an hour.  lol!  When she feels like talking you kind of hang on to it. But when she doesn't all you can do is say "Love you, bye!"

We had a septic emergency the other day!  Freaked me out.  All our drains were backed up. Luckily it didn't back up everywhere!  We contacted our friend Ronnie Todd who is a poop pumper and came out on a Sunday with his wife to unblock our drain. Then we could at least use it! He is one of the greatest guys I know! Seriously. We will get the septic pumped on the 10th of July by him. The back of his septic truck says "Yesterday's meals on wheels".  Pretty funny, huh?

Scruffy went and got his haircut, nails trimmed, bathed, ears cleaned, etc the other day.  I went and got Madi so where I picked him up she was with me.  All he wanted to do was head out that door when the girl brought him out until he saw Madi and then he ran to her so happy!!!! He is obsessed with her and loves her so much.  Scruffy is a Border Terrier and this describes him:
  • The Border Terrier is a small dog with an alert gaze and a good-natured personality. He's intelligent, loyal, fearless, loving, and determined, and about as aggravating as any dog can be. TheBorder Terrier is not for everyone,  you should be fully committed to taking his antics in stride with an amused shake of your head. Borders are happy dogs who generally get along well with everyone from children to strangers. They'll bark at noises, making them excellent watchdogs, but don't expect them to be fierce guard dogs if an intruder enters your home.  The Border Terrier can make you laugh and cry and laugh some more. He can be a handful, but he's always the apple of his owner's eye.  Border Terriers thrive when they're with their people and aren't meant to live outdoors with little human interaction.
    • Border Terriers are active and bouncy. They love jumping up on people to greet them.
    Before

    After
Madi had fun spending the night. She got her favorite dinner (brinner... breakfast at dinner time).
bacon, hashbrowns, fried eggs (over hard how madi likes them) and pancakes!
Then Madi and her family went camping.  From the pictures I am kind of jealous.  I miss camping.
    madi and her mama

    cooking oysters from the beach

    madi, joel and dylan
Kevon went crabbing the other day.  Here is a picture of the crab with his dad's dog.

  • Penny (Kevon's best friend) seems to like the boat!
    kevon and second best friend.

That is a keeper!!!!  Kevon loves crabbing in his boat!
Well, I guess that is about it!  Took me all day to write. I keep feeling like it is Saturday but it is only Friday.  I will really try to write more often since I am not facebooking as much.  xoxo
